Abstract

This study answered the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the elderly in terms of sex, religion, occupational status, type of family, educational attainment and physical status? 2. What is the level of perception of the elderly regarding late life sexuality? 3. What is the level of perception of the elderly regarding late life when grouped according to sex, religion, occupation status, type of family, education and physical attainment and physical health status? 4. Are there differences in the level of perception of the respondents regarding late life sexuality when grouped according to sex, religion, occupational status, type of family, educational attainment and physical health status? A 20 item Likert type of questionnaire was answered by 60 elderly of Poblacion, Indang, Cavite, whose age ranges from 60 and above and can adequately communicate verbally. Data gathering were done from August 27 to September 7, 1999.  The need to educate the elderly was clearly concluded to make the elderly understand that it is not merely the physical changes that affects a man's sexual capacity and practice, but the physiologic, emotional, psychological and social changes, physical and emotional health and the environmental factors. It was also concluded that openness and confidence in our respondents' case is not clearly defined in their relationship. 2. The level of perception of the respondents when grouped according to sex, religion, occupational status, type of family, and educational attainment does not vary. Their perception was interpreted as "Poor" in the religion category, which showed that the non-Catholic's perception was neutral. 3. It was also concluded that perception of elderly does not vary with their sex. It is also revealed that a Catholic's perception on sexuality could be the same as that of non-Catholics. In type of family and physical health status, the study that non -Catholics. In type of family and physical health status, the study implies that whatever type of family and either illness or wellness does not affect elderly's perception on late life sexuality. However, in terms of occupational status and educational attainment, it proves true that education has a significant impact and influence for older people to maintain their social status which includes expression of sexuality.
