Abstract

This study particularly aimed to: 1. know the profile of the respondents according to age, educational attainment, economic status, religion and length of marriage. 2. know the emotional and psychological effects of infertility as perceived by childless married couples. 3. know the level of perception regarding the emotional and psychological effects of infertility as perceived by childless married couples. 4. find out if there are significant differences in the emotional and psychological effects of infertility as perceived by childless married couples when grouped according to age, educational attainment, economic status, religion and length of marriage.  This study was conducted in selected barangays of Dasmarinas, Cavite. The population of this study consists of 50 childless couples legally married for 3-10 years. In the light of the findings the following conclusion was drawn: The majority of the respondents were in the middles adult category, married for almost 7 to 10 years, catholic, had attained high school level of education and received a monthly income of P 8000 and above. The childless married couples were uncertain that they experienced the emotional and psychological effect of infertility. Variables like age, length of marriage, religion and economic status showed no relationship to the level of perception of the respondents regarding the effect of infertility emotionally and psychologically. Educational attainment had significant relationship to the level of perception of childless married couples. Because according to the study, those who attained high school level of education agreed that they had experienced the emotional and psychological effect of infertility because they are more emotional, less experienced on how to handle problems, have no other activities to divert their attention and they are more dependent on others. Regardless of the variables the couples experienced the emotional and psychological effect of infertility.
