Abstract

The study utilized the correlational type of research, using the quantitative analytical method. Using stratified random sampling in Tuy, Batangas, the first 100 breastfeeding mothers served as the respondents, with 20 respondents from each of the five barangays. Out of 100 respondents, a majority were 25-

34 years old, attained secondary level of education, unemployed, married, well in terms of health status, have 1-3 children, with a monthly income of Php10,000 and below, and delivered through vaginal spontaneous delivery. The respondents have a very high level of knowledge and compliance regarding breastfeeding. On the one hand, there was no significant difference in the level of knowledge when they were grouped according to age, occupation, civil status, and health status, parity/number of children, family income, and type of delivery. On the other hand, there was a significant difference in the level of knowledge when they were grouped according to educational attainment. There was no significant difference in the level of compliance when they were grouped according to age, educational attainment, occupation, civil status, health status, parity/number of children, family income, and type of delivery. There was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of compliance of mothers regarding breastfeeding, with the result indicating that mothers with high level of knowledge regarding breastfeeding would most likely have high level of compliance with breastfeeding.
