Abstract

The researchers utilized a descriptive type of research in conducting the study. The respondents of the study consisted of 60 postoperative patients who have undergone major operation and who stayed in the hospital for 2 to seven days after surgery. The researchers used the probability sampling method, specifically the purposive sampling in choosing their respondents. The instrument employed in the study was adapted from the Quality of Care instrument by Belgira, Macuja and Torres (1999) and was modified by the researchers to answer the specific objective of the study is aided by interview. The statistical treatment utilized the study were mean, f-test, and t-test. 1) The respondents’ profile in terms of age revealed that out of 60 respondents, 57% of the postoperative were in 22-40 age bracket; 60% were female; 62% were married, 80% were Catholic; 38% attained high school and 88% had monthly family income of P10,000 below; 2) The computed mean of 2.44 showed that the postoperative patients perception was high for physical care. The mean ranging from 1.88 -2.33 means that they perceived emotional, social and spiritual care as moderate. The computed mean of 2.22 showed that in general the respondents had a moderate level of perception for physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of care; 3) There were no significant differences in the quality of care rendered by nurses as perceived by the respondents when they are grouped according to age, gender, civil status, religious affiliation, and monthly income; 4) A significant difference was noted in the emotional aspects and overall quality of nursing care when the respondents were grouped according to level of education.
