Abstract

This study was a quantitative research that utilized descriptive correlational design. The total population used in the study was 87 nursing students in De La Salle University- Health Science Campus, school year 2000-2001. The data on stress management were gathered through a questionnaire developed b the researchers. The statistical treatment used in the study were percentage distribution, mean, t-test, f-test, and pearson r. 1) Majority of the nursing students in De La Salle University- Health Science Campus, school year 2000-2001 were female, fourth year, catholic, had monthly family income of above P40,000, residing in their home and had social support system when under stress; 2) Most of the nursing students often used physical, emotional, cognitive and social stress management and sometimes used spiritual stress management when they face a stressful situation; 3) Majority of the nursing students of De La Salle University- Health Science Campus, school ear 2000-2001, had satisfactory level of academic performance ranging from 881-84; 4) The stress management used by the nursing students had no significant difference when they were grouped according to their profile except year level, which was found to have significant difference in managing a stressful situation; 5) The level of academic performance of the nursing students had no significant difference when they were grouped according to their profile except religion, which found to have significant difference in managing a stressful situation; 6) The stress management and academic performance of the nursing students had no significant relationship, Therefore, it was not the direct cause of either a good or a poor academic performance but rather, one of the causes.
