Abstract

This study aims To determine the perception of the residents of Barangay Alapan I-A, Imus Cavite with regards to "Hilot" as an alternative to modern medicine. SPECIFIC 1.What is the profile of the respondents in terms of monthly income, usual source of health care, family decision making pattern, and educational attainment? 2.What is the perception of the residents of the Barangay Alapan I-A Imus Cavite with regards to "Hilot" as an alternative to modern medicine? 3. Are there significant differences in the perception of the residents of Barangay Alapan I-A Imus Cavite with the regard to "Hilot" as an alternative to modern medicine when they are grouped in terms of monthly income, usual source of health care, family decision making pattern, and educational attainment? The setting of the study was at Barangay Alapan I-A Imus Cavite with the total population of 3,692 residents. The data was collected from a sample size of 100 individuals within the age group of 18-65 years old. This study focused only on the perception of residents of Alapan I-A Imus, Cavite in seeking "Hilot" when they were grouped according to monthly income, usual source of health care, family decision making pattern, and educational attainment. The major findings from the study were as follows: 1.In terms of monthly income, most of the respondents, 34 individuals or 34% have a monthly income of only less than P5, 000. The most common source of health care of the residents of Barangay Alapan I-A Imus Cavite is the health center which comprises of 31 individuals or 31%. Regarding family decision making, both parents are involved in most families which has a rating of 51%. In educational attainment, most respondents or 47 individuals or 47% are high school graduates. 2.The over all mean of 2.14 was obtained regarding the perception of Barangay Alapan I-A, Imus, Cavite with regards to "Hilot" as an alternative to modern medicine. It was interpreted as low level of perception. 3.The usual source of health care and educational attainment were interpreted as significant variables while the monthly income and family decision making were interpreted as non-significant variables.
