Abstract

this study aims To be able to know the relationship between the level of knowledge and level of compliance of adults in selected communities in Silang, Cavite regarding oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections Specific 1.To determine the profile of selected respondents in terms of age, gender, educational attainment and economic status; 2.To determine the level of knowledge and level of compliance of respondents regarding the oral use of oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections in terms of duration, frequency and type of antibiotic; 3.To determine the significant differences in the level of knowledge of the respondents with regard to the use of oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections when they are grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment and economic status; 4.To determine the significant difference in the level of compliance of the respondents with regard to the use of oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections when they are grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment and economic status; and 5.To determine the significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of compliance with regard to the use of oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. This study was conducted in Barangay Balite, Lalaan I, Lalaan II, Balubad II and Balubad I. The variables under consideration were the profile of the respondents, the respondents' level of knowledge, and the level of compliance regarding oral antibiotic therapy as treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. A total number of 100 respondents regardless of their gender, educational attainment, economic status, religion, citizenship and civil status were chosen. Only those who are between 20-65 years of age were accepted as respondents of the study. These respondents must previously had and presently have any type of upper respiratory tract infections and have utilized antibiotic therapy as their treatment regimen. These chosen respondents must be able to read, write and able to understand questions cited in English or Tagalog. This study focused only on establishing the level of knowledge and the level of compliance and their relationship.
