Abstract

The study utilized the quantitative, non-experimental descriptive type of research design. There were 50 people who participated in this study using purposive sampling. The level of coping was gathered by utilizing the researchers’ self-made questionnaire in English and Filipino version. The main statistical treatments used in this study were percentage, mean, t-test and F-test (ANOVA). The following conclusions were derived from the findings of the study: 1) Majority of school-age children in Cavite with newly repaired cleft palate were eight (8) years old, male, belonged to Class D with monthly income of P5,001 to P20,000, Grades 1 and 2 students, and had undergone surgical repair five (5) months ago; 2) The school-age children in Cavite with newly repaired cleft palate had high levels of physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual coping; 3) School-age children with newly repaired cleft palate of different ages had the same physical, psychological, emotional and social coping strategies although there was a slight difference in the spiritual coping; 4) Male and female school-age children with newly repaired cleft palate had the same physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual coping strategies; 5) School-age children with newly repaired cleft palate from different socioeconomic groups had the same emotional, social and spiritual coping strategy but there was a slight difference in the psychological and physical coping; 6) School-age children with newly rapired cleft palate with different educational status had the same physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual coping strategies; 7) School-age children with newly repaired cleft palate with different post-surgical repair duration had the same physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual coping strategies.
