Abstract

This study utilized the descriptive non-experimental research design. The respondents were limited to 50 surgical patients of DLSUMC, Dasmariñas, Cavite and were chosen using purposive sampling method. The tool was adapted and modified and composed of 20 statements answerable by true and false. The statistical treatment used for data analysis were percentage, mean, F-test and Z-test. The study concluded that; 1) Majority of the respondents were 20-39 years old, female, married, college graduate, Catholic and with no history of previous operation; 2) The respondents have a good level of knowledge regarding music therapy in decreasing postoperative pain; 3) There are no significant differences in the level of knowledge of preoperative surgical patients of DLSUMC regarding music therapy in decreasing postoperative pain when they are grouped in terms of age, gender, civil status, religion, monthly income and history of previous operation. However, there is a significant difference in the level of knowledge of preoperative surgical patients of DLSUMC regarding music therapy in decreasing postoperative pain when they are grouped in terms of educational attainment.
