Abstract

This study utilized the non-experimental, descriptive type of research. The study chose respondents that fit the established criteria such as adolescents, 13-19 years of age, enrolled in high school and studies at Dasmarinas National High School in Cavite using purposive sampling.. The questionnaire used was adopted and modified from the study “Level of Knolwedge of Chain Smokers about Smoking and Having Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease” by Dimapilis et al. (2005). Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, percentage, mean, t-test and f-test. In light of the findings summarized, the following conclusions are drawn: 1) Majority of the adolescents of Dasmarinas National High School in Cavite belong to the age bracket of 13-14 years of age, are female, Catholic and have a monthly family income of 10,000 and below and non-smokers; 2) Majority of the adolescents in Dasmarinas National High School in Cavite have a high level of knowledge regarding cigarette smoking and its effects on health; 3)There are significant differences on the level of knowledge regarding cigarette smoking and its effects on health when grouped according to age, gender, religion, monthly family income and use or practice of cigarette smoking.
