Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive quantitative type of research design. Purposive sampling was used to obtain a population of 100 breastfeeding mothers who are exclusively breastfeeding their children for first six month, wherein 50 mothers delivered at home and 50 mothers delivered in a health care facility. The respondents answered a 20-item self-made questionnaire which have undergone validity and reliability. Frequency, percentage, mean, t-test and f-test or ANOVA were used in the statistical analysis of the data. The following conclusions were obtained based from the findings of the study: 1) Most of the mothers from Brgy. Banadero Calamba, Laguna and Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital belong to 18 to 27 years old age group, obtained high school level of education, have family income of Php10,000 and below, had 1 or 2 deliveries, had complete consultations before delivery and was attended by a doctor during delivery.; 2) Mothers who delivered at home and in a health care facility have excellent breastfeeding practices using he Maternal Role Attainment Model; 3) Mothers who delivered at home and in a health care facility have the same breastfeeding practices. It is regarded that the place of delivery of a mother is not important; 4) There is no significant difference in the breastfeeding practices among mothers who delivered at home and in a health care facility in terms of age, family income, parity, number of prenatal check-ups, and delivery attendant. However, educational attainment is a significant factor for mothers who delivered in a health care facility.
