Abstract

The study utilized the descriptive type of research design. The sample size was obtained using purposive sampling. From a total number of 2,447 population of Barangay Pulong-Bunga Silang, Cavite, which was composed of 408 families, 150 respondents in Silang, Cavite met the criteria as heads of the families and were chosen as the respondents for this study. The instrument employed in this study was a self-made questionnaire. For obtaining reliable data from the respondents, the researchers used the following statistical treatment: percentage distribution, frequency distribution, mean, t-test and F-test. The following conclusions were obtained based from the findings of the study: 1) Majority of the heads of the families in Barangay Pulong-Bunga, Silang, Cavite are 36 to 55 years old, have obtained secondary level of education, female, have a monthly income of P6,000 and below, Catholic and indicated that licensed health care professional were the usual source of health care for the family; 2) The heads of the families in Barangay Pulong-Bunga, Silang, Cavite have high perception regarding traditional healers and licensed health care professionals as source of health care; 3) The perception of the heads of the families in Barangay Pulong-Bunga, Silang, Cavite towards traditional healers as source of health care has significant differences when grouped according to gender and usual source of health care. However, the perception of the respondents towards traditional healers as source of health care has no significant differences when they are grouped according to age, educational attainment, monthly income and religion. On the other hand, the perception of the respondents towards licensed health care professionals as source of health care has no significant differences when they are grouped according to age, educational attainment, gender, monthly income and religion. However, the perception of the respondents towards licensed health care professionals as source of health care has a significant difference when they are grouped according to usual source of health.
