Abstract
The study used descriptive non-experimental research, specifically correlational study. Using simple random sampling, this study was conducted to 100 nursing students batch 2013. The variables under consideration were the profile of the respondents, their emotional intelligence, and their academic performance. The research instrument that was used to gather the data was questionnaire. The following statistical treatments were used to answer the specific problems and to test the hypotheses of the study: percentage distribution, mean, t-test for independent variables, ANOVA and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents are 18 years old, female, with a month family income of P30,001 and above, and Catholic; 2) The selected DLSHSI nursing students batch 2013 have a very good emotional intelligence; 3) The academic performance of selected DLSHSI nursing students Batch 2013 is good; 4) There are significant differences in emotional intelligence of the respondents when grouped according to age and monthly family income. However, the emotional intelligence of the respondents is the same regardless of gender and religious affiliation.
