Abstract

This study utilized the descriptive type of research. Respondents included 50 tuberculosis clients of Poblacion I, Bacoor, Cavite selected through purposive sampling technique. The study utilized a self-made tool using a multiple checklist type of questionnaire with four (4) response options regarding knowledge of tuberculosis patients in prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. Actual data gathering was conducted in Poblacion I, Bacoor, Cavite. Frequency, percentage, and Pearson chi-square test were used in the statistical analysis of the data. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the respondents were less than 30 years old, male, married, unemployed, with six (6) months to 1 year duration of illness and elementary graduates; 2) Almost all of the respondents have a high level of knowledge in terms of prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. They were aware and given enough information by the RHU workers in their respective communities about tuberculosis; 3) There are no significant differences in the level of knowledge of tuberculosis patients regarding its prevention and treatment when they are grouped according to age, gender, civil status, duration of illness and educational attainment. However, occupation may affect the level of knowledge in terms of prevention and treatment of tuberculosis.
