Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore and understand the dietary beliefs and practices of individuals with T2DM Mellitus and how these beliefs influence their dietary practices. The study utilizes a Correlational Quantitative Design to determine the dietary practices and dietary beliefs of persons with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Specifically, it aims to determine whether a significant correlation exists between these two variables and to assess whether dietary beliefs and practices significantly differ when respondents are grouped according to age, sex, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, educational attainment, and access to healthcare resources. A total of 390 respondents participated in the study. Data were collected using a self-made questionnaire, which was carefully designed to capture relevant information on the respondents’ socio-demographic profile, dietary beliefs, and dietary practices. The study reveals that most respondents were females aged 30–64, Tagalog, Roman Catholic, from low-income households, with high school education, and the hospital as their primary healthcare access. Respondents had positive dietary beliefs and moderate adherence to dietary practices related to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Significant differences in dietary beliefs were found in relation to healthcare access, while differences in dietary practices were noted based on sex and socio-economic status. A moderate positive correlation (r = 0.529, p < 0.001) was found between dietary beliefs and practices.
