Abstract
Objective Of The Study: General: This study primarily aimed to determine the Competency of the 4th Year BS Nursing Students using the Clinical Preceptorship Approach. Specific: Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of sex and the area of rotation under the NLM preceptorship program? 2. What is the competency of the respondents using the clinical preceptorship approach in their NLM (Nursing Leadership & Management) Immersion? 3. Is there a significant difference in the competency of the respondents when they are grouped according to sex and area of rotation under NLM rotation?
Methodology: The study utilized a Quantitative Descriptive Analytical Research Design to determine the Competency of the 4th year BS Nursing Students using the Clinical Preceptorship Approach when grouped according to sex and year level. The respondents are either male or female, graduating nursing students of DLSMHSI in the academic year 2023-2024. During the initial conduct of the study, the respondents were able to be handled by Clinical Preceptors and already undergo NLM (Nursing Leadership Management). This study utilized an adapted and self-made questionnaire via Google Forms which were divided into two sections. The first section focused on the demographic profile, while the second covered the level of competency of nursing students using the clinical preceptorship approach. The responses were evaluated using a 4-point Likert scale. Moreover, the study explored six fundamental methods: Frequency Distribution, Percentage, Mean, F-Test, T-test, and ANOVA-Test.
Major Findings: The following findings were drawn from this study: 1. Out of 157 respondents, most participants were female (113, or 72.4%), and 43, or 27.6%, are male. Regarding the profile of the Respondents in terms of area of rotation under the NLM preceptorship program, with the highest mean of 32, or 20.5% were from DLSUMC 3700 and with the lowest mean of 2, or 1.3% were from 3800. These findings have revealed that the most common areas of their rotation in NLM Immersion is in DLSUMC Third building 7th floor (3700). 2. These findings also revealed the highest and lowest levels of competency using the clinical preceptorship approach. The findings revealed that the 4th year nursing students’ competencies are proficient. 3. The study found no significant difference in competency between male and female students. Thus, in area of rotation, the findings revealed that there were also no significant findings.
Conclusion: From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Findings revealed that most respondents of this study were female students. It also revealed that the most common areas of their rotation in NLM Immersion is in DLSUMC Third building 7th floor (3700). 2. The overall highest and lowest levels of competency using the clinical preceptorship approach is Enhancing Competencies and the lowest mean is Patient Caring Competencies. However, students shows proficiency in all of the four national core competencies. 3. The overall results illustrated that female were more dominant in male.
