Abstract
Objective of the Study:
General: The study aims to identify the factors affecting the compliance with COVID-19 vaccination of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute Senior High School students. Specific: Specifically, the study aims to address the following questions: 1. To determine the profile of the respondents in terms of sex and religion? 2. To determine the factors affecting the compliance of the respondents to COVID-19 vaccination? 3. To assess the significant differences in the factors affecting compliance to COVID-19 vaccination when respondents are grouped according to sex and religion?
Methodology: The research design used for this study is non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive-analytical. The target population of this study were the Senior High School Students of DLSMHSI. The following are the inclusion criteria set in order to get the respondents such as (a) 18 years old and above, (b) enrolled in the Academic Year 2021-2022 in the Senior High School department of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, (c) have either received the first or complete dose (d) consented to become a respondent of the study as testified in the informed consent.
Major Findings: 1. From the presented data, the following findings were deduced and presented in the order of the questions at the beginning of the study: 2. Out of 208 respondents, (a) 134 (64.4%) are female; and (b) 163 (78.4%) are Catholic. This indicated that the majority of the senior high school students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute are female. Out of 208 respondents, 163 or 78.4% are Catholic, while 45 or 21.6% are non-Catholic. The overall results indicate that there are more Catholic senior high school students.
3. The factors affecting the compliance of the respondents to COVID- 19 vaccination show that Motivation, with an overall mean of 3.77
and standard deviation of 0.334, is the most considered factor that influences compliance to COVID-19 vaccination, followed by Capability, with an overall mean of 3.76 and standard deviation of 0.347 and the least likely factor to consider is Opportunity with an overall mean of 2.70 and standard deviation of 0.455. 4. When senior high school students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute are grouped according to sex, there is a significant
difference in the capability factors (p-value = 0.002 0.05 level of significance) and opportunity factors (p-value = 0.001 0.05 level of significance), but no significant difference in the motivation factors (p-value = 0.315 > 0.05 level of significance). When De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute senior high school students are grouped according to their religion, there is no significant difference in the capability factors (p-value = 0.069 > 0.05 level of significance) or opportunity factors (p-value = 0.604 > 0.05 level of significance) affecting the compliance to COVID-19 vaccination. However, there is a significant difference in the motivation factors (p- value = 0.006 0.05 level of significance).
Conclusions: In light of the results of this study, the following are concluded: 1. Most of the respondents are female and Catholic. 2. The respondents are more influenced by motivation-related factors by agreeing that vaccination against COVID-19 is a collective action to prevent the spread of the virus. Followed by capability, in which the respondents believe that they are at the right age to accept the vaccine. Lastly, in opportunity-related factors, the respondents agree that vaccines are readily available
in the community and at the school. The study further reveals that the respondents demonstrate their ability to comply with the COVID-19 immunization by using their knowledge, including their understanding of the disease and treatment, about the COVID-19 vaccine. 3. When grouped according to sex, there is a significant difference in the capability and opportunity factors affecting compliance with COVID-19 vaccination among senior high school students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute as opposed to the motivation factors. On the other hand, there is a significant difference in the motivation factors of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute students when they are grouped according to religion. However, the capability and opportunity factors have no significant difference among the factors affecting their vaccination compliance.
