Abstract

The student researchers utilized the quantitative descriptive design through survey method. The tool used was a self-made-content and face validated and was based on the eight categories of the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. It was used among the 90 respondents who were (1) 60 years to 85 years old, (2) residing in a selected area in Dasmariñas, Cavite, (3) obtained a score of 25 and above in their Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), (4) can read and hear instructions and could still answer the questionnaire by themselves, and (5) those who accepted to become a respondent of the study as testified in the informed consent. Purposive sampling was used in the recruitment of participants. Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, weighted mean, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis H Test and Post Hoc Tests. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: Majority of the respondents who were 60-75 years old, female, with health conditions, had secondary education and belonged to a low-income group generally perceived that they do not need support yet except on areas of physical environment, social, aesthetic and self-esteem. Contributory to the differences in the perception of the older persons of the health care needs were sex, health status, and family monthly income. Their age and educational attainment do not affect their perceptions regarding health care needs.
