Abstract

In this study, the researchers utilized a descriptive-quantitative research design. By using this research design, researchers were able to use a quantitative questionnaire to identify factors such as age, sex, educational attainment, family monthly income, occupation, religion, and age of their children which may have contributed to the parental vaccine hesitancy against COVID-19 vaccination on school-aged children. Using Slovin’s formula for a finite population with a confidence level of 95%, a total of 304 respondents from the Governor. D.M. Camerino Integrated School Medicion 2D Imus, Cavite, is needed for the academic year 2022-2023. In selecting the participants, the researchers utilized purposive sampling. This type of sampling is a non-probability sampling that allows the researchers to select and evaluate their respondents based on their judgment. The researchers were able to select the respondents based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Consequently, the inclusion criteria for the selected respondents were (a) Parents of unvaccinated school-aged children, (b) Parents of one or more children aged 5-11 years, and (c) Parents who show a willingness to participate in the study. In contrast, the exclusion criterion is being a parent of school-aged children with comorbidities. For the analysis of the collected data, frequency distribution, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and t-test were employed under the statistical treatment. The researchers used a 4-point Likert Scale question in which it is based on the Health Promotion Model of Nola J. Pender, specifically the main concepts of individual characteristics and experiences, behavior-specific cognitions, and behavioral outcomes. The following questions had sub-concepts as the basis for constructing each question. The first part contained the respondents’ demographic data, while the second and last parts consisted of the distinct factors influencing vaccine hesitancy. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Most respondents were female, aged 19-40, unemployed, high school graduates, and Roman Catholic. Moreover, most of the respondents generated a monthly family income of less than Php 9, 520. 2. The results of the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among parents of school-aged children from the Governor. D.M. Camerino Integrated School Medicion 2D Imus, Cavite, revealed that among 100 respondents, the statements under Individual characteristics and experiences, Behavior Specific Cognitions and Affect, and Behavioral Outcomes got an overall mean score of 2.43, 2.48, and 2.52, respectively using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Therefore, all of these are interpreted as having Moderate Hesitancy, which means that the factors identified using Nola J. Pender’s theory are present and have a moderate influence on the parental vaccine hesitancy among parents of school-aged children from the Governor. D.M. Camerino Integrated School Medicion 2D Imus, Cavite. 3. There were no significant differences in factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy when grouped according to age, sex, educational background, monthly family income, occupation, religion, and age of children.
