Abstract

The study utilized a cross-sectional, correlational style of quantitative research to examine the relationship between social media literacy and body image among first-year students at DLSMHSI, taking into account factors such as gender and college affiliation. A proportional quota sampling was used. The questionnaire used to determine the Social Media Literacy and Body Image of the respondents is a self-made research instrument. Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, t-test and Pearson-R. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) Most of the respondents were female, making up 51.3% of the total respondents; 2) The respondent’s overall social media literacy was very good even though they do not have prior education in the use of social media; 3) The perceived body image of the respondents is negative; 4) The student’s social media literacy is very good regardless of their gender. However, students from the College of Medical Laboratory Sciences have better social media literacy than those from other colleges; 5) Female students have a more positive body image than male and LGBTQ students. On the other hand, students from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences have a more positive body image than students from most colleges except for the College of Nursing; 6) The perceived body image of the respondents is unrelated to their social media literacy.
