Abstract
The study utilized a descriptive-analytical design. Using the Yamane's formula, a total sample size of 291 nursing students from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute was acquired to conduct the study which was divided into smaller groups using the stratified random sampling. Whereas a total of 97 students from first year; 83 students from second year; 58 students from third year; and 52 students from fourth year were computed. This study utilized a two-part self-constructed questionnaire. The first part identified the profile of the respondents and the second part contained a total of 25 statements which pertain to the perceived effectiveness of mindfulness exercises in managing stress among the nursing students. The data gathered were analyzed with the use of the following statistical tools: mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, t-test and f-test or Analysis of Variances (ANOVA). The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents are females, first year students, practice breathing exercises and utilize mindfulness exercises in a span of 5-10 minutes; 2) Mindfulness exercises were perceived to be effective in managing stress by Bachelor of Science in Nursing students in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute; 3) Bachelor of Science in Nursing students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute similarly perceived mindful exercises as effective in managing stress regardless of their sex and year level. However, those who perform yoga as their mindful exercise perceived it as more effective in managing stress compared to those who perform breathing exercises and meditation. In addition, performing mindful exercise for at least 20 minutes or longer was perceived to be more effective compared to performing them for only five to to ten minutes.
