Abstract

The study used a quantitative descriptive study. Using purposive sampling, the researchers were able to identify 60 respondents for the study. The instrument used in the study was a self-made questionnaire. The study used the frequency distribution, percentage, mean, ANOVA or f-test and t-test. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the caregivers of family members with chronic illness were 20-25 years old and 40 years old and above, female, married, Catholic, earning P6,000 and below, not having any previous experience in handling a family member with chronic illness and has less than one (1) year of experience in handling a family member with chronic illness; 2) The caregivers of family members with chronic illness utilized the right categories of coping skills by Martz and Livneh (2007). Praying for guidance from the Almighty God was the most used coping skill while disregarding handling a sick family member as a problem was the least used among the coping skills; 3) Age, gender, civil status, religion, monthly family income, previous experience in handling a family member with chronic illness and length of experience in handling a family member with chronic illness do not affect the coping skills used by caregivers of family members with chronic illness
