Abstract

The study utilized a correlational research design with a questionnaire composed two parts: the modified Body Appreciation Scale 2 (BAS-2) by Tylka and Wood-Barcalow (2015) for body image perception and self-made tool for meal skipping habits. Proportional quota sampling technique was used to get representatives from year levels of the nursing college. Correlation was determined by Pearson r test accompanied by other statistical treatments t-test, F-test, mean, frequency distribution, percentage and standard deviation. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents (a) were females, (b) had normal body mass index, (c) had family monthly average income of P100,000 to P249,999, (d) spent 3 to 4 hours on social media and (e) had 3 to 4 social media accounts, 2) The respondents had a positive body image perception, 3) The respondents had a seldom meal skipping habits, 4) There was no significance difference in the body image perception of the respondents when grouped according to sex, body mass index, socioeconomic status, time spent in social media in a day and number of social medica accounts, 5) There was no significant difference in the meal skipping habits of the respondents when grouped according to sex, body mass index, socioeconomic status, time spent in social media in a day and number of social media accounts, 6) There was no significant relationship between the body image perception and meal skipping habits of the respondents.
