Abstract

The researchers utilized a descriptive-quantitative research method to identify the challenges of becoming a certified health professional among De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) fresh graduates during the COVID-19 pandemic. A self-made questionnaire composed of three different variables (personal, interpersonal, and social systems) was used. Quota sampling and snowball sampling methods were utilized for the recruitment of the respondents. Slovin‘s formula was used to identify the sample size of 201 respondents from seven courses. The comparison of the variables was determined by the following statistical treatments: (1) frequency distribution, (2) percentage distribution, (3) mean, (4) median, (5) standard deviation, (6) Mann- Whitney U Test, and (7) Kruskal-Wallis Test. The findings of this study include: 1. Most graduates were from BS Physical Therapy. Most of the respondents were females and were within the 22-23 years old age bracket. 2. Fresh graduates from DLSMHSI experienced personal, interpersonal, and social challenges in becoming certified professionals to a moderate extent overall. Moreover, they consider personal challenges as the most challenging aspect of their journey towards professional certification. 3. All of the fresh graduates from DLSMHSI experienced similar challenges in becoming a certified health professional regardless of their age, sex, and course.
