Abstract
A non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive research design was used in the study. The research instrument used was a modified, adopted tool from the published studies of Tesfaye et al. (2015) and Tremblay et al. (2009), which served as the reference of the factors that affect the work performance. The respondents in this study were staff nurses from selected hospitals in Cavite who were chosen using purposive sampling, requiring them to meet the set criteria. For the data analysis, statistical treatments such as percentage, mean, t-test, F-test, Mann Whitney U test, and Kruskal Wallis test were used. Based on the preceding findings, the following conclusions were reached: 1) Majority of the respondents (a) are females, (b) between 21 to 25 years old, (c) of single status, (d) with bachelor’s degree in nursing, (e) have 1 to 5 years working experience, and (f) with a monthly salary of Php 8,000 to Php 13,999. 2) For intrinsic factors, three statements affect the work performance of nurses to a great extent: What I do in the ward gives me a chance to see how good my abilities are, doing my tasks in the ward makes me more confident about myself and I can use myself, my knowledge and experience in the ward. While extrinsic factor has two statements that affect the work performance of nurses to a great extent, these are: The temperature in the nursing station is comfortable to work with and There are infection control strategies and guidelines available. 3) When staff nurses in selected hospitals in Cavite are grouped according to age, gender, civil status, religion, highest educational attainment, and years of experience, there are no significant differences in the intrinsic factors affecting work performance. When respondents are grouped according to age, religion, and monthly salary, there is a significant difference in the extrinsic factor affecting work performance.
