Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive non-experimental type of research design using snowball sampling. There were 161 emergency room nurses chosen as respondents. The questionnaire is adapted and modified from the Stae-Trait Anxiety Inventory developed by Charles D. Spielberger in collaboration with Dr. Richard Gorsuch, Dr. Robert Lushene, Dr. Peter Vagg, and Dr. Gerard Jacobs in 1970 (Ao et al., 2020). Data was analyzed through percentage, mean, standard deviation, frequency, Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis H Test. The study concluded that, 1) The majority of the respondents were 26 to 30 years old, single, female, working as an emergency room nurse for 10 months up to the present with five years and below nursing experience; 2) 2. The COVID-19 pandemic has a high impact on their mental health, particularly on the anxiety of emergency room nurses working in different hospitals in Cavite. 3. Age, sex, and years of experience as nurses influence their response in extreme situations such as COVID-19 pandemic which can also be their determinants in adapting in the crisis.
