Abstract

Specifically this will answer the following questions. 1. What are the causes regarding the proliferation of street children in Cavite City, as perceived by the respondents? 2. What are the possible solutions needed in order to solve this problem as perceived by the respondents. The study population was composed of 40 street children of Cavite City. The descriptive method was used, non-probability sampling, specifically the quota sampling was used in getting the sample population and the selected respondents was interviewed and observed. Based on the data gathered, majority of the respondents perceived that abandonment and neglection was the main cause of their exposure in the streets. With regards to their jobs, majority answered begging for money, while others answered cigarette vendors and few answered news paper boys. With regards to the ways/program needed in order to minimize their growing numbers, a great significant perceived to send them to orphanage, followed by institution for street children should be placed in Cavite City and provide the children a proper job that would fit them. Based on the above findings, the following conclusion were drawn: 1. A greater number of street children perceived that abandonment and neglection are the primary reasons with regards to their causes in the streets. Thus, the first hypothesis is accepted. 2. Majority of respondents perceived that sending them to orphanage is the most appropriate program in order to solve their growing numbers, thus the second hypothesis is accepted.
