Abstract
This study attempts to investigate the adjustment of DLSUMC nurses to the demands of their job in relation to sex, age, civil status and unit assignments. Specially, this study aims to answer the following: 1. Are there significant differences in the adjustment to the demands of the job of female nurses as compared to the adjustment of male nurses? 2. Do nurses have differences in the adjustment to job demands in relation to age? 3. Are there significant differences in the adjustment to the demands of the job of married nurses as compared to single nurses? 4. Are there significant differences in the adjustment to job demands of nurses assigned in different service units in the hospital? The following hypothesis were treated statistically: 1. Female nurses have better adjustment to the demands of their job than male nurses. 2. Age has a significant effect on the adjustment of nurses to the demands of their job. 3. Single nurses have better adjustment to the demands of their job than married nurses. 4. Nurses assigned in ward unit have better adjustment to the demands of their job than nurses at OR-DR, Pedia, IMU, ER and nursery. Research design used in the study describes the adjustment of nurses to job demands. The total of thirty (30) samples were randomly taken from the different service units of DLSUMC. The respondents were registered nurses composed of female and male, single or married with ages ranging from 21-60 years old. These nurses must have served the hospital for at least six (6) months. Personal data sheet and a close type of questionnaire was used in gathering data. The questions was categorized into five aspects namely: socio relations, competence, satisfaction, attitude and feelings. Each category consists of four (4) items. The hypothesis stated previously in the beginning were analyzed in the following: tallies & frequencies, mean, percentage and chi-square. Statistical findings were treated at .05 level of significance. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were offered: 1. The adjustment of nurses to the demands of their job does not vary according to age, sex, civil status and unit assignments. 2. Only in terms of social relations of nurses when grouped according to age, civil status and unit assignment. 3. As a whole, the DLSUMC nurses are adjusted most of the time
