Abstract
his study is intended to supplement information on the implementation of Generics Act of 1988. The study involved a small study population. The main problem of this study is to assess the effects of implementation of Generics Act to the consumers as perceived by the selected people living in DBB 1. The following are the summary of the study. 1. Most of the respondents are aware that the aim of Generics Act of 1988 is to have an effective medicine at a price they can afford. According to them, it is an act which enable them to choose an effective drug in an affordable price. 2. Majority of the total respondents sought information from the health center and regarding the problem they have encountered. 3. According to them there are more advantages in using generics. They have a wider choice of equivalent drugs with different prices. Although brand names are easier to remember than generics because most of the brand names in the market are creations of advertising firms, but still they prefer generics due to its affordability. Based on the above findings, the authors concluded that: 1. The study showed that majority of the respondents are aware of Generics Act of 1988 since they know that the primary objective of this program is to help the consumer to avail drugs in an affordable price, thus, rejecting the last hypothesis. 2. Majority of the respondents agree on the implementation of Generics Act of 1988 because they found it advantageous, thus, accepting the 2nd hypothesis. 3. The respondents encountered difficulty and that is the pronunciation of generic names of the drugs, thus, accepting the 3rd hypothesis. 4, majority of the respondents overcome their problem on the implementation of Generics Act of 1988 by asking information from Health Center and Drugstores, thus, accepting the 4th hypothesis.
