Abstract

The research was conducted in order to assess the extent of having intimate relationship with the opposite sex to the study habits of selected nursing students. Having intimate relationship with the opposite sex involved the Senior Nursing students who are willingly and voluntarily committed to a particular person belonging to the opposite sex to share and nurture feelings of love, care and respect without necessarily being married or living together. The study habits pertain to the ways, patterns in finishing the study task whether systematic or unsystematic, efficient or inefficient or the basic features describing the factors which an individual follws in learning. The effect of having intimate relationship with the opposite sex pertains to the result, outcome whether an improvement of a failure to the study habits. The different aspects of having initmate relationship includes the preparation or help made relationship includes or assignments, conflicts which arise with the boyfriend or girlfriend and even parents as well as with the school and duty schedules, visits and calls made, studying in advance, being obliged to do assignments or requirements with boyfriend or girlfriend, joining activities, time spent with boyfriend or girlfriend, dates, setting priorities between studies and relationship, studying together and cutting classes. This study was also conducted in order to find out if having intimate relationship brings unfavorable effects to the study habits of senior nursing students and thus, it aimed to bring about changes and development. It also aimed to foster self-analysis and awareness to strengthen the desire to overcome study habit and relationship weaknesses. The major findings of the study was that having intimate relationship with the opposite sex brings a moderately favorable and mostly unfavorable effect to the study habits. Moderately favorable in aspects of having intimate relationship such as preparing or helping in accomplishing requirement or assignments, conflicts arises with boyfriend or girlfriend, visits or calls made at certain times, studying in advance, being obliged to do the assignment or requirements of the boyfriend or girlfriend and joining activities in which the boyfriend or girlfriend engages with. The unfavorable effect pertains to the aspects of having intimate relationship such as conflict with parents, conflict in schedules, spending vacant time with the boyfriend/girlfriend, putting aside requirements in order to attend the needs of the boyfriend or girlfriend and cutting classes. This study had revealed that having intimate relationship with the opposite sex have unfavorable effect to the study habits of selected senior nursing student of De La Salle University - EAC.
