Abstract

The research is a qualitative study in which the approach is a descriptive-exploratory study. The research study was conducted among 149 selected mothers with children. Convenience sampling technique was used for selection of the respondents. Survey questionnaires was the instrument used. Tools such as frequency distribution, Principal Component analysis (PCA), and One-way ANOVA were utilized in statistically analyzing collected data. The study concluded that difference practices of mothers regarding the management of diarrheal disease symptoms including anti-diarrheal drugs (Diatabs, Imodium), any form of massage, oils (efficascent, Aciete de manzanilla, malunggay), tea, oral rehydraton salts (QRS), and changes in diet (banana, apple, guava pear, BRAT, rice, Yakult, cereal). With this, influencing factors have been established on why mother utilize these treatments such as environmental influences, its therapeutic effects, household practices, its safety, and their economic conveniences. In terms, of perceived effectivity, it is determined that the majority of mothers preferred administering ORS to their children to immediately alleviate the diarrheal disease symptoms experienced during diarrheal episodes. However, the study found no significant difference in terms of the preferred medication of mothers with the overall subjective relief indicating that in terms of relief, all the symptom managements perform the same and none is better or worse than the other.
