Abstract
The study utilized a systematic and scientific approach, through experimental method, in order to determine the hemagglutination property of the Solanum melongena (eggplant) crude protein on the blood groups A., B, AB and O. Protein was extracted from the Solanum melongena fruit. The crude extract was used in different concentrations and tested against the blood samples fro 108 participants. Based on the results, for blood groups A and AB, the use of crude protein resulted in 2+ hemagglutination (i.e. medium-sized agglutinates with clear background). This degree of hemagglutination activity observed with the used of crude protein in these two blood groups differed significantly from those of concentrations 1000 mg/mL and 500 mg/mL, which both yielded only 1+ hemagglutination (i.e. small agglutinates with turbid background) on the crude, 1000 mg/mL and 500 mg/mL concentrations. In summary, Solanum melongena crude protein showed agglutination reaction on different red blood cells from human volunteers.
