Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a prevalent non-communicable disease characterized by the gradual loss of kidney function and greatly influenced by risk factors such as high blood pressure and blood sugar level. This study aims to assess the level of awareness of the residents from selected barangays and to evaluate if there is a correlation between their demographics and level of awareness. A descriptive study was conducted among 356 residents from Brgy. San Manuel II, Brgy. San Miguel II, and Brgy. Saint Peter I utilizing a 6-category questionnaire adapted from several sources and validated by experts. The results of the study revealed that residents had a high level of awareness with 9,669 overall total scoring equivalent to 77.60%. Statistically, the correlation was analyzed using a chi-square test with a 95% confidence level. Generally, it was revealed that there is no significant relationship between the demographics of the residents and the level of awareness. However, educational status (X2= 0.226, P = 0.876) posed a significant relationship to the level of awareness. With this, further studies must be conducted in order to explore the different factors that contribute to the respondents’ high level of awareness.
