Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between the academic performance in character education subjects and professional subjects of third-year College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI). The significance of this research extends to students of Medical Laboratory Science, medical technologists, the community, academe, and future researchers, providing insights for educational enhancement and professional development. The scope of this study encompassed the specified subjects and their potential impact on academic outcomes, excluding external variables that may affect students’ academic performance. A descriptive correlational research design was applied to gather data from 129 randomly selected students with the integration of an online questionnaire. Utilizing Spearman’s correlation coefficient in the statistical analysis, the researchers attained a correlation coefficient of 0.354 with a p-value of < 0.001. These findings yielded a low positive correlation, showing a statistically significant relationship between character education subjects and professional subjects. The results highlight the importance of holistic education approaches that prioritize self-awareness and ethical reasoning alongside technical proficiency. Future research should continue to explore the multifaceted impacts of character education on professional development within healthcare-related disciplines.
