Abstract

This study is entitled “Perceived Factors Influencing the Fourth-Year Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science Students In De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute to Take the Medical Technology Licensure Examination”. The researchers used a descriptive quantitative type of research and a survey method to assess the leading factors and their extent. The respondents were selected through simple random sampling and the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The study identified that Career Advancement is the leading factor that influences fourthyear Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science students to take the Medical Technology Licensure Examination. The students also planned to take the exam for a variety of reasons, such as personal satisfaction, salary, and exam anxiety. They also plan to take medical laboratory science to improve the health and well-being of the sick, have a good work experience, improve their technical skills, and gain self-satisfaction and self-esteem. The findings can help institutions and policymakers develop more effective programs and policies to support student's academic and professional goals.

Universities must take into account the factors that influence student decisions and offer a self-evaluation guide to help students decide if they should take the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination (MTLE). Future researchers may formulate resolutions to help attenuate the ongoing drop in MTLE takers. Universities should also offer a self-evaluation guide to help students assess their decision.
