Abstract

Antibiotic misuse and overuse lead to a variety of issues including antimicrobial resistance thus making it a global issue. The study aimed to determine the level of knowledge and assess the attitude of adult patients in City Health Office II of Dasmarinas Cavite. This was done through purposive sampling on 125 respondents and by utilizing an adapted modified questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions on demographic profile, knowledge, and attitude on antibiotic use. The study was conducted during the month of April 2023 to May 2023. Results revealed that 107 respondents (85.6%) had poor knowledge about the proper intake, dosage, and effects of prescribed antibiotics. On the assessment of attitude, the 63 respondents (50.4%) had a positive attitude towards proper intake, dosage, and effects of prescribed antibiotics. As per the assessments of the study, it showed that the levels of knowledge, and the attitude of the respondents is not affected by the social demographic factors such as age, sex, occupation, and educational attainment.
