Abstract

The objective of the study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices on blood donation of medical and non-medical students of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute and De La Salle University-Dasmarinas (DLSUD). This cross-sectional study included 280, 142 medical and 138 non-medical, students of selected colleges of DLSHSI and DLSU-D. Participants were selected through a 2-stage sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire was utilized to assess the participant's knowledge, attitude and practices on blood donation. Data were analyzed and compared between the 2 groups of students using t-test and chi-square test. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Poor knowledge, despite positive attitude of medical and non-medical students lead to poor practice of voluntary blood donation. There is a need to increase this knowledge and to further motivate students to donate and commit to regular voluntary donation.
