Abstract
This study develop a risk scoring tool to predict the risk of major lower limb amputations among diabetic foot patients using demographic and clinical parameters. A 6-year retrospective charts review from January 2008 to June 2013 at the De La Salle University Medical Center was used for the study. All patients with a final diagnosis of diabetic foot on the chart, with an ICD-10-CM Index of E11.621, were included in the study. These were then divided into major and minor amputations. The study showed that the risk factors for major amputation were Wagner Classification, WBC count, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP).
