Abstract

HIV affects approximately 33.3 million individuals worldwide, with 2.6 million new cases annually. Major advances in the knowledge and treatment of HIV over the last decade have led to a significant decrease in AIDS-related death. However, the Philippines is only one of seven countries, and the only one in Southeast Asia, to have reported a >25% increase in HIV prevalence over the last decade. Urinary tract infections are quite common especially in the community setting, and these infections are rapidly responsive to modern antibiotic therapy, hence, a task force was formed in 2013 to develop Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Urinary Tract Infections in Adults.
