Abstract
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, work arrangements underwent a significant change. Many businesses implemented work-from-home (WFH) arrangements, involving the government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to maintain companies’ continuity. According to this study, the Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being is drastically significant to productivity while working at home. Therefore, this study identifies the health promotion strategies used to maintain productivity while working at home among government employees. In this study, a convergent parallel mixed-methods design combining the qualitative data gathered through 2 sets of focus group discussion (FGD) combining selected 11 participants and quantitative data from an online survey with 49 participants were conducted with the employees at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), specifically in the Center for Cosmetics and Household/Urban Hazardous Substances Regulation and Research(CCHUHSRR), who are currently implementing a 2-day work-from-home scheme. The study revealed that employees benefited from autonomy, competence, and relatedness that they experienced at home. Consequently, challenges were also identified, which include some interruptions from family members, connectivity issues, miscommunication/misinterpretation, and environmental conditions at home. All these factors have an impact on their mental health and well-being. According to the results of the study, autonomy, competence, and relatedness, along with the workplace environment, are essential for linking employees’ mental health and well-being to their productivity. The findings of this study might contribute to the creation of a policy within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that supports mental health and well-being through health promotion.
