Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of andragogical approach on the knowledge of relatives regarding myocardial infarction. This study utilized the quasi-experimental design specifically the non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. A total of 80 respondents were identified in Nasugbu, Batangas. Forty respondents from Barangay Wawa formed the treatment group while another forty respondents from Barangay Bucana formed the control group. The researcher used a self-made questionnaire specifically designed about the present knowledge about myocardial infarction. The study concluded that the knowledge of relatives about myocardial infarction before the andragogical approach revealed that the control group and treatment group both have good knowledge. With regards to the knowledge of the relatives after the andragogical approach, the score of the control group revealed a good knowledge about myocardial infarction while the treatment group obtained a score equivalent as very good knowledge. There was no statistical significance in the difference of knowledge before the andragogical approach for the control and treatment group and in the control group's pretest ad posttest scores. On the other hand, there was a statistical significance in the difference of knowledge after the andragogical approach for the control and treatment group and in the treatment group's pretest and posttest scores. It is therefore concluded that the Andragogical approach is effective in increasing the knowledge of relatives regarding myocardial infarction and a useful intervention in improving the participants' baseline knowledge.
