Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the effects of holistic nursing program (HNP) on coping in child rearing of families with absentee father. The study included a total of sixty (60) respondents who are aged 21-50 years old, with at least one child and above and wives of seafarers regardless of work in the vessel. The research instruments used are the following: the Personal Data Sheet and a 28-item self-made questionnaire for coping in child rearing rating scale. Findings showed that the level of coping in child rearing of families with absentee father in the control group was excellent compared to a very good level of coping in child rearing by study participants in the treatment group prior to the intervention. Whereas, after implementation of Holistic Nursing Program, the treatment group had excellent level of coping in child reading while the control group had very good to excellent level of coping. There were significant differences in the level of coping in child rearing of families with absentee father before and after the intervention. Hence, the Holistic Nursing Program (HNP) was an effective bio-behavioral and educational nursing intervention in the enhancement of the level of coping in child rearing among families with absentee father.
