Abstract

This study utilized the true experimental design specifically the randomized pretest-posttest design. This study involved twenty-eight (28) participants from Wanbei Hospital. Participants were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups. Participants’ data sheet and stress questionnaire were used to gather the needed data for the study. Percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent means, and paired t-test were the statistical tests utilized in the study. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher concluded that: 1) Majority of the participants are female, 20 years old and above, with annual family income of less than 30,000 RMB, and present area of exposure is the emergency room. The participants in the treatment and control groups did not significantly differ in terms of age, sex, annual family income, type of nursing program, and present area of exposure; 2) The level of stress of nurse interns in both the control and treatment groups was at level three. After the implementation of the psychological support, the participants in the treatment group had a level two stress level while the control group maintained the same stress level (level 3); 3) There was no significant difference in the level of stress (pretest and posttest) in the control group. The level of stress of the participants in the treatment group was significantly reduced after psychological support; 4) The participants in the control and treatment groups had the same stress level prior to the application of psychological support. The level of stress of the treatment group was significantly lower than the level of stress of the control group after the application of psychological support; 5) Psychological support is an effective intervention in reducing the level of stress among nursing students during their internship training.
