Abstract

K-dramas and Family Dynamics are factors that can aid in the rise of “Delulu,” reflecting on how idealistic romance portrayed by the media and family situations can blur expectations of reality. This study aims to uncover how romantic K dramas and family dynamics shape the standards and expectations of a young woman in a relationship. Five young women were interviewed based on the given criteria, and interpretive phenomenology was utilized to analyze their experiences. Findings revealed that while romantic K-dramas elevate relationship expectations, family dynamics ultimately set the standards of these young women. This implies that family dynamics serve as the blueprint for practical relationship standards based on experiences within the family environment, but at the same time, romantic K-dramas amplify these expectations by presenting idealized romance. Moreover, while both K-dramas and family factors significantly influence a young woman's early perceptions of relationships, these influences do not permanently define their mindset later in life. As they grow older, personal experiences provide greater depth in understanding relationships, allowing them to establish their own opinions. Eventually, these young women possess the ability to differentiate reality from fiction, admiring perfect relationships while still acknowledging that real-life relationships require practicality rather than perfection.
