Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, most healthcare professionals have been forced and encouraged to consult their patients online. Long periods of isolation led to an increase in anxiety and depression symptoms. Online counseling, on the other hand, has been more profoundly recognized. The main goal of this descriptive quantitative study is to determine the significance of online guidance counseling to DLSMHSI-SHSSHS students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers explored the significance of online guidance counseling in terms of (1) the factors influencing its significance and (2) ways of improving the significance of online guidance counseling. The study is supported by several articles and journals on the related topic retrieved through the internet. The survey was conducted online using questionnaires prepared with Google Forms, to which 277 randomly selected students from DLSMHSI-SHSSHS replied. As per the survey results, the significance of online guidance counseling is affected in such a manner that students are discouraged from participating for reasons such as being reluctant to speak up about their struggles, and it would require much effort for them to seek help from a counselor. Additionally, the school administration, counselors, and instructors should work together to enhance the importance of online guidance counseling to their students. The researchers recommend expanding programs and activities in online guidance counseling to foster a comfortable environment and positive relationships with students.
