Abstract

The De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) Senior High School students have experienced a different learning approach for A.Y. 2021 – 2022 which is called the independent study period (ISP). This study aims to determine the perception if the implemented “ISP” is effective for students. To gather sufficient data on the students’ perception, a survey questionnaire was utilized based on two major academic experiences: productivity and confidence, with further subdivisions on understanding and learning quality, and satisfaction and concern, respectively. Collected data in quantitative form shows means with 4.14 for academic productivity and 3.47 for academic confidence. In resolving the first statement of the problem, a statistical analysis on the figures indicates the definite perception of effectiveness for the ISP on understanding, learning quality, and satisfaction, with fair perception towards concern. In resolving the second statement of the problem, an independent t-test was conducted, resulting in a high significance for the comparison that there is certain difference between the two major parameters, indicating strong data readings and not resulting as due to chance. As with this study, the study recommend doing further analysis on the specifics of students’ learning experiences during the independent study period (ISP).
