Abstract

This research studied the possible difference in the use of Philippine herbal medicine between lowland and upland Cavite. Primarily, it compared the level of awareness and practice of these areas in herbal plants. The lowland areas of Cavite are Cavite City and Imus City, while the upland region of Cavite included Indang, Cavite and Tagaytay City. Most of the 120 respondents were aged 37-59 years old and resided in their locality for 41-50 years on average. The study utilized a descriptive and comparative quantitative research design. In gathering the data, the researchers used a self-made research instrument and probability sampling method. Based on the results, the respondents from the lowland areas of Cavite are moderately aware (mean: 3.88) of herbal medicine. Overall, these respondents sometimes (mean: 3.20) practice using herbal plants. For the upland areas of Cavite, the respondents also have moderate awareness (mean: 3.80) on the use of herbal medicine. They sometimes (mean: 3.34) practice the different applications of herbal medicine. Among the top ten DOH-approved herbal plants, all respondents (100%) are aware of lagundi, bawang, and ampalaya. In conclusion, there is no significant difference in the level of awareness (p- value: 0.627) and practice (p-value: 0.368) on the use of herbal medicine between upland and lowland Cavite.
