Abstract

As future health care professionals, the researchers wish to investigate the advantages or benefits of studying specialized health sciences subjects in senior high school, gaining a foundation and basic knowledge, and how it would affect their college academic performance. The study is about determining if specialized health sciences subjects are effective to the college academic performance of senior high school graduates from Batch 2018 in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute by using certain parameters such as applicability, scope, relatedness, and complexity. The sample consists of Batch 2018 graduates from the Special Health Sciences Senior High School program that are currently 3rd-year college students in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. A 20-item questionnaire was utilized through Google Forms as the primary method for data gathering. The raw data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The study’s findings show that the computed mean of applicability (3.99) ranked the highest among the parameters while scope (3.97), relatedness (3.77), and complexity (3.66) came thereafter. These findings suggest that the students’ applicability of specialized health sciences subjects learned from senior high school concerning its utilization to their college academic performance is perceived to be the most effective and beneficial among the four (4) parameters.
