Abstract

Studies have shown that several factors affect the work performance of a nurse, these factors which are present in their working environment may pose a positive or negative effect towards their own well-being. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our country’s health care was on the verge of collapse due to the increasing number of infections, which resulted in nurses being overworked and stressed. This study aimed to determine the correlation between the work performance and work environment of Filipino nurses. A survey questionnaire was administered to 50 participants to determine their perception regarding the factors in their work environment which affects their work performance. The respondents identified social aspect as the factor present in their workplace in which they perceived positively. The respondents also ranked financial aspect 1st, as the factor which needs to be improved first. Furthermore, results showed that there is a weak significant positive correlation between the two variables. This implies that both public and private hospitals in the Philippines have a low minimum wage for nurses wherein it is not enough to sustain their daily living. Institutions must consider increasing the salary and benefits of nurses since the Philippines is one of the countries in Asia which provides the lowest pay to nurses.
