Abstract
Over the last few years, numerous foreign studies have been describing people’s knowledge and perception regarding generic and brand name drugs. However, local studies about the effectiveness of generic and brand name drugs based on consumers’ knowledge and perceptions are not much observed. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the current perceptions of the consumers, and certain factors that might influence their perceptions with regards to generic and brand name drugs. With this, a descriptive study was carried out in Barangay Aniban III, Bacoor City, Cavite.
The study revealed that the consumers’ knowledge about generic and brand name drugs were average. The consumers’ perception on generic and brand name drugs relies on their knowledge. This study suggests that the local government units should augment their information dissemination efforts to further improve the knowledge of the consumers regarding the use of generic and brand name drugs.
